ملخص الدراسة:

Study aim This study aimed to highlight the importance of the militant boarder areas, thoghour, located along the northern coastal borders with the Byzantine Empire during the Umayyad era. Methodology This study adopted the historical approach. The most important findings of the study 1. The caliphs had paid a great attention to the thoghour areas, by sending their dependents to them in order to defend and take care of these areas. 2. The caliphs had paid a great attention to secure a suitable environment that ensures the strength and security of the thoghour areas. This included establishing roads, and provision of soldiers and man power. 3. The caliphs sent several campaigns that were named Sawaa’ef and Shawati continuously without any interruption. The most important recommendations of the study 1. Researchers are urged to pay attention to the thoghour areas in Egypt, North Africa, northern Iraq, the areas beyond the two revers, and Andalusia in the different Islamic eras. 2. Historians and archeologists are recommended to pay attention to searching the antiquities left by Muslims in the thoghour areas, including castles, and thoghour fortifications in order to discover their cultural and civic life. 3. Muslims are encouraged to revive the Sunnah of Jihad and Ribaat, spending times in the thoghour areas, in order to restore their glories.
