ملخص الدراسة:

Gaza Strip suffers from continuous increase in the population as well as the number of taxies. The majority of Gaza Strip citizens use taxi in their movement. Relying completely on taxi, neglecting the availability of public transport, which could lead to more traffic congestion and negative impacts on the environment in the future. This study deals with an a proposal to select "Metro" route as a public transportation mode in Gaza City. The researcher discusses through the questionnaire hypotheses which contribute to the approval community for this means of transportation, and the validity of these assumptions. random sample is selected with size 150, and 96 questionnaire papers are received with (64%) response. The result was all fields of questionnaire is significantly significant at α = 0.05, which mean that there is a satisfaction by the community to select "Metro" route as a public transportation mode in Gaza City. This study also contains the evaluation of a case study in Gaza City to select the best Metro route. The researcher choose 50 important intersections in Gaza City, then choose the number of these intersections as the main stations of metro lines based on multi criteria such as population density, number of vital places, available parking, importance level, and the area of each intersection. The stations was selected using geographic information system (GIS) and spatial multi criteria analysis process (SMCDA). By connection between these stations to configure the number of Metro lines, best paths are chosen using two criteria such as soil type and the level of groundwater wells in Gaza City. Finally, the researcher recommends that giving more attention to solve the current traffic problem, which may worsen with time. Through formation of a committee to develop an integrated strategy to start implementing the steps to create metro project that includes members of General Authority for Investment, Ministry of Public Works and the Ministry of Transport. In addition, development of preliminary studies, which include the general plan, capital costs and technical perceptions of the project. The researcher also recommends to extend the metro network to include other areas in Gaza Strip by connecting the metro network of the City with northern and southern governorates to solve traffic congestions in the future.
