ملخص الدراسة:

This research considers the civil war between the followers of the Sunni and Shiite religious groups in Iraq during the rule of the Abbasi dynasty (750H-1258A.D). It is believed that only one war between the two groups occurred during the first two centuries of the rule of Abbasi dynasty in the year 790. The worst of these wars on the other hand took place during the rule of the Shiite Boayhies in the period between (945H-1055A.D). This is due to their first ruler Moaz Al-dawalah Bin Boayeh who invented two religious festivals where his Shiite followers were ordered to ridicule the companions of the prophet mohammed. This practice aimed to protect the Shiite identity and prevent their followers from dissolving in the majority Sunni population. Such religious fairs were preserved by the Shiites for long periods of times and continued to provoke Sunni followers who considered the companions to be sacred and stood up against such practices ultimately leading to clashes and bloody conflicts over the years.
