ملخص الدراسة:

The study aimed to identify the role of student councils in promoting intellectual security among the Palestinian university students. To achieve this aim, the study used the descriptive analytical approach, and the structural evolutionary approach to construct a proposed perspective to develop the role of student councils in promoting intellectual security among the Palestinian university students. The study used the questionnaire as a main data collection tool, in addition to the focus group. The questionnaire included 30 items directed to a sample of 349 male and female students from different Palestinian universities. These are Islamic University, Al-Azhar University, and Al-Aqsa University. The study results showed the following: Students’ consideration of the role of student councils in promoting intellectual security was 62.59%, which presents a moderate degree. There are significant statistical differences at the level of significance (α ≤ 0.05) between the averages of the sample concerning the role of student councils in promoting intellectual security attributed to the university variable (Islamic University, Al-Azhar University, and Al-Aqsa University). This difference was in favor of the Islamic University students, There are also differences attributed to the variable college (scientific vs. humanities) This difference was favor of scientific colleges. There are no significant statistical differences at the level of significance (α ≤ 0.05) between the averages of the sample concerning the role of student councils in promoting intellectual security attributed to the variable of sex (male vs. female), and the variable of study level (second vs. fourth level). Based on previous results, the study recommended a set of recommendations including: To enhance the role of student councils in the Palestinian universities to promote intellectual insecurity among their students and guard the youth from deviant thoughts. To raise students awareness about the importance of intellectual security and the threat of religious extremism. To promote discussion and dialog between students to get them used to accept others' opinions in order to strengthen intellectual security.
