ملخص الدراسة:

The problem of alumni in Gaza strip was investigated quantitatively and qualitatively. Numerical indicators of alumni and markets were analyzed alongside with the results of questionnaires resulting important conclusions and recommendations:_x000D_
The number of unemployed alumni was 35,200 from 102,300 with unemployment percentage of 34.4%, which is very serious indicator. Many factors may participate in the exacerbation of this problem such as the quality of general and academic education. In the field of general education and according to the TIMSS results of grade eight students in math and science, Palestine was ranked as 43 of 49 participant countries. None of Palestine students was classified in the advanced level and the average of Palestine results was below the international average in math as international knowledge._x000D_
These results may be referred to the deficiency of basic skills in curricula according to the educational supervisors. Among thirty investigated skills, about nine were available with a percentage lower than 50% such as inference skill, presenting data skill, and criticism and evaluation skills. Moreover, it is found that the hypotheses and expectations articulation proficiency percentage was less than 33% which provoke many questions around the education process and the extent to which research skills are available in curricula. _x000D_
Additionally, the teachers’ ability to teach the skills was unacceptable based on the educational supervisors' response who were in agreement with no more than 66% about this point. Therefore, the students are affected negatively in terms of gaining these skills._x000D_
The results show that the universities barely take into consideration their alumni needs when developing their strategic plans with a rate of approval less than 66.5%. While the compatibility between the academic advising and the market needs was about 62%. Also the integration in academic programs between the Palestinian universities didn’t amount to 65%. Only 55% of respondents believe that there is a harmony in the offered academic programs between academic institutions. All the above mentioned figures indicate to the absence of higher education role in directing the institutions towards effective academic programs._x000D_
The deans and head of departments in universities argued that their curricula include the examined skills with high percentages close to 80%. However, some important skills still under the desired level for example building models skill and the proficiency of defending their own products got only 68% and 67% respectively._x000D_
Regarding to Palestinian labor market results, approximately half of the employees assert that they hadn’t have a vivid knowledge about the future job before their graduation. Besides, 54% of the respondents illustrate that they hadn’t got periodic training so it can be concluded that the employers don’t invest in their human resource. Another interesting observation from the results points out the market trend in employing the fresh graduates which may result from their satisfaction of low levels in salaries. However, there were around 70% of respondents who were not pleased with their wages._x000D_
Moreover, the employers highlighted the employee’s weakness in the investigated skills where 18 skills out of 28 skills were found with acceptance degree not more than 70%. Meanwhile, the research skills were the lowest among the others. _x000D_
Indeed, the English language skills, which are the most important skills for the local, regional and international labor markets, were hardly achievable in the alumni since the deans and departments heads appoint it no longer than 48%._x000D_
Finally, the study recommended the decision makers to pay attention to the education system in both the basic and academic levels by providing the alumni with the required skills for labor markets. In addition, the universities and colleges should include in their strategic planning the alumni needs alongside with improving their academic programs to suit the market needs. It is also advised to adoption the certification and licensing culture in order to increase the quality of alumni.
