ملخص الدراسة:

The study aimed to identify the relationship between main design elements and readability of the Palestinian daily newspapers from the standpoint of the media experts. This has been carried out through identifying the role of these elements in increasing the relationship, and investigating the commitment of these newspapers to use these elements including identifying the most important ones in this regard. This study belongs to the descriptive research, where a surveys and mutual relations methods were used. In this context, the study adopted the strategies of surveying the public media audience, the method of practice survey, and the method of correlation survey. Tw tools were used for data collection, which are the induction newspaper, and directed or limited interview. The questionnaire was distributed to an intentional sample of the academic media experts, who present media professors in the major Palestinian universities. These universities are: Najah National University, Birzeit University, Hebron University, Islamic University, Al-Azhar University, and Al-Aqsa University. The questionnaire also targeted press practitioners in the four Palestinian daily newspapers, which are Al-Quds, Al-Hayah Al-Jadeedah, Al-Ayyam, and Palestine newspaper. Sample size was 105 sampling units. The most important findings of the study: Results of the study showed that the format (size) that increases the readability of the Palestinian daily newspapers is the tabloid newspaper format constituting (61%), while only (39%) believe that the standard newspaper format increases the readability. Results of the study revealed that the Palestinian daily newspapers which consist of 36 pages has the highest readability potential (43.8%), followed by newspapers which consist of 28 pages (22.9%), and newspapers which consist of 32 pages (11.4%). The results of the study showed that 47.6% of the sample believe that the paper type that increase readability of the Palestinian daily newspapers is the white paper. 43.8% believe in the casual rough paper, while only 8.6% believe in the fine paper. Based on these results, the study arrived at several recommendations including: Promoting the use of the tabloid newspaper format, as it was the most readable format from the media experts’ point of view. This is due to its portability, review, and control. Increasing the number of pages, and thereby increase the amount of news and topics of interest to the reader. Improving the type of paper by using the white paper, as this was the most readable type from the standpoint of media experts.
