This work describes a modelling and simulation of_x000D__x000D_
the switching mechanism of an off-grid hybrid power system. An offgrid_x000D__x000D_
system means that it is not connected to an electricity grid or_x000D__x000D_
network. An off-grid power system is important especially at_x000D__x000D_
catastrophe times and war where it is hard to get electricity from a_x000D__x000D_
utility grid. In addition to that, owners of residential and small-scale_x000D__x000D_
commercial structures which are located in remote areas will be able_x000D__x000D_
to have access to the electricity._x000D__x000D_
The switching mechanism depends on the renewable energy_x000D__x000D_
amount. An off-grid hybrid power system utilizes an array of deepcycle_x000D__x000D_
batteries to store the power generated by the solar panels and a_x000D__x000D_
wind turbine. When the renewable sources have excess energy, it is_x000D__x000D_
stored in the battery. However, If the renewable sources do not_x000D__x000D_
supply enough energy to the loads, the switching mechanism will let_x000D__x000D_
the battery provide the load with the required energy._x000D__x000D_
The simulation results in this work show the advantages of using_x000D__x000D_
the off-grid system to produce electricity or power from one or more_x000D__x000D_
source of renewable energy.
