<strong>ملخص الدراسة:</strong>

This study examines the role of community participation in the preservation of the historic center of Gaza City, in order to evaluate and suggest some perceptions to increase its effectiveness as one of the success factors. The study relied on the analytical descriptive approach to describe the problem and then propose some solutions and recommendations, based on the results of a questionnaire, which was distributed to a sample of residents and users of the old town, in addition to the results of interviews prepared in advance for a number of officials and employees in the relevant institutions. The study concludes a number of outcomes, the most important of which is that, there is a considerable weakness in the community participation in the processes in architectural preservation. This is referred to a lack of awareness of its importance, in addition to the absence of a strategic plan at the concerned official institutions to activate and make use of it. Accordingly, the study recommended the distribution of roles between the relevant authorities and community participants in a complementary manner, and to develop a unified strategy to activate the role of community participation in the preservation and rehabilitation of the historic center of Gaza City.
